NEW YORK — An Australian man visiting New York under the pretense of attending the U.S. Open women’s final instead became involved in a bizarre sexual harassment case involving a 21-year-old Harlem woman. According to the report, the man claimed to have traveled to the city for the tennis event, but allegedly spent his time pursuing unwanted romantic and sexual attention toward a woman he described online as his “step-daughter”.
The woman strongly rejected the claim, saying the supposed online affair was completely bogus and that the man was not her daddy or anything resembling a “family” relationship. She reportedly told authorities that she wanted nothing to do with him and had repeatedly asked him to stop contacting and approaching her. But the Australian man was unrelenting.
Police allegedly arrested the Australian man late last night outside the woman’s Harlem residence after receiving a complaint about his continued harassment. The case quickly became an internet curiosity, with observers questioning how a trip supposedly planned around one of tennis’s biggest events could turn into such a bizarre confrontation. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, while the woman has made it clear that the alleged relationship existed only in the man’s imagination. She described him as sick.
