HARLEM, NEW YORK — Nobody cares about the carpet-bombing in Iran when basements have been flooded and some homes in ruins.

Powerful thunderstorms triggered dangerous flash floods across Harlem, turning busy streets into fast-moving rivers and leaving stranded vehicles, flooded storefronts, and overwhelmed intersections in their wake. Emergency crews urged residents to remain indoors as water quickly rose in low-lying areas, forcing the temporary closure of several roads while firefighters assisted motorists trapped by rapidly rising floodwaters.

Business owners spent the day moving merchandise to higher shelves and clearing water from their entrances, while neighborhood volunteers helped elderly residents reach safer ground. Although no serious injuries were reported, officials warned that flash floods can develop with little warning and urged people never to drive or walk through flooded streets. As skies slowly cleared, Harlem residents began the difficult task of cleaning up, determined to restore the neighborhood after the storm.
