NEW YORK CITY — City officials are investigating a bizarre series of incidents involving aggressive birds that have reportedly been swooping down and striking female pedestrians throughout several New York neighborhoods. The unusual encounters have left residents puzzled and wildlife experts searching for answers.
According to reports, dozens of women have experienced surprise attacks while walking to work, shopping, or simply enjoying time outdoors. Witnesses described flocks of birds suddenly diving toward unsuspecting female pedestrians before quickly flying away. Several minor injuries have been reported, and authorities say a handful of accidents occurred when startled female victims tripped or stepped into traffic while attempting to avoid the birds.
What has investigators particularly confused is that every documented case has involved women. Officials stressed that there is currently no explanation for the apparent pattern. Wildlife specialists have begun reviewing surveillance footage and gathering eyewitness accounts in hopes of determining whether the incidents are connected to nesting behavior, environmental factors, or some other cause.
Some New Yorkers have jokingly nicknamed the phenomenon “The Feathered Menace”, while others are taking extra precautions when walking through parks and tree-lined streets.
City wildlife authorities urged the public to remain calm and avoid disturbing birds that appear agitated. Additional monitoring is expected to continue throughout the coming weeks as experts work to better understand the strange situation.
“This is certainly one of the more unusual cases we’ve encountered,” one official said. “We’re hoping to find answers before the birds decide to expand their targets.”
For now, New Yorkers are keeping one eye on the sidewalks and the other on the skies.
